Here is a great talk by Janet Murray about narrative, digital media and games. Murray is the author of Hamlet on the Holodeck, an important book about new forms of narrative in new media (among other things).
Though I like Murray’s ideas, I always thought the idea of a “Digital Narrative” was somewhat contradictory – if it is procedural, then it shouldn’t be “narrative”, which is a traditional form.
In the video above, Murray clarifies that, declaring that narrative and games (as well as other procedural content) are two different things. She still criticizes Façade, though, which I think misses the point (since she seems to expect Façade to adopt traditional narrative strategies).See more researchblog.
